US military staff at the Mexican border have been assigned to paint the wall in order to improve its “aesthetic appearance,” media reports say.
Department of Homeland Security informed Congress via email Wednesday that the next month personnel will spend painting certain barrier structures. “While the primary purpose is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the wall, there may also be an operational benefit based on our experience with painted barrier in Nogales, Arizona,” read the email.
US Senator Dick Durbin commented on the matter by posting on his Twitter.
“DHS informed Congress today that troops are going to spend the next month painting the border wall & “the primary purpose is to improve the aesthetic appearance.” A disgraceful misuse of taxpayer $$. Our military has more important work to do than making Trump’s wall beautiful,” he wrote.
Some of the twitter users criticized the task given to the troops.
Others defended it.
