Number of Russians considering US, Ukraine to be hostile countries dropped

According to the latest research by the independent Levada-Center, analytical center of Yuri Levada, published on Friday, a number of Russians considering the US and Ukraine to be hostile countries has dropped. The survey conducted in May 2019 showed that attention of Russian citizens has shifted from geopolitical to domestic issues, such as prices and wages.

The number of those considering the US as an enemy decreased to 67 percent comparing to 78 percent in 2018, those who say Ukraine is a hostile country dropped till 40 percent, mark in 2018 was 49 percent.

US – Russian and Russian – Ukrainian relations worsened in 2014 after the reunification of Crimea and Russia. The US then imposed a list of sanctions against Russia in order to ‘punish’ the country for its actions. Sanctions did affect the economic growth of the Russian Federation.

When the poll was conducted, many expressed their hope that newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will establish better relations with Russia.
