American rapper ASAP Rocky was charged with assault over a street fight in Stockholm in June, reported CBC News Thursday.
ASAP was arrested and held in custody since July 3 for a fight with two men, who allegedly followed him. The Grammy-nominated artist claimed that he acted in self defense, however, Swedish prosecutor Daniel Suneson stated Thursday that Rocky’s actions caused ‘actual bodily harm…despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”
There is a footage published on social media which shows that Roky threw a man onto the ground. Having studied the video, Prosecutor Suneson said he did not find it to be self-defense.
“It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet,” he said. “In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”
Many American celebrities expressed their support for ASAP Rocky, including Kim Kardashian-West and her husband Kanye West, who went all the way to the US President Donald Trump asking him to intervene. Last week President Trump spoke with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven over the phone about the case and “offered to personally vouch for his bail,” however, under Swedish law there is no bail and politicians cannot interfere with the ongoing investigation. Lofven’s spokesperson later explained that Swedish judicial system, prosecutors and courts are completely independent.
ASAP Rocky wil be detained until trial, the date of which is yet unknown.
