Dmitry Peskov: No doubts response to US missile test will follow

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin Spokesman, claimed Monday that the Defense Ministry of Russia has started implementing instructions given by the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to respond to the recent US cruise missiles’ test, Russian News Agency TASS reported.

President Putin said last week that in the wake of the US missile test Russia should analyze the level of the threat and take responsive measures.

“There are no doubts that it will follow,” Peskov said. “And all measures will be taken to ensure our country’s security.”

When asked whether Putin’s instructions are being implemented, Peskov responded positively. “They have been given. Yes, of course,” he said.

Russia have been conducting military drills over the weekend, however, Peskov explained that it is an “army’s usual work” and is not related to President’s instructions. “In general, there has been quite intensive activity lately both for military development and for our troop’s maintenance in the proper state,” Peskov stated.

Peskov also spoke about the New START Treaty between the US and Russia, which is the only document limiting nuclear forces. The agreement expires in 18 months, yet the nations haven’t started any talks about It. When asked what happens if the treaty expires and is not prolonged, Peskov said: “Undoubtedly, strategic stability on the overall global level will be affected, because we all — I mean humanity — we will be left without a single document that would regulate this area.”
