US President Donald Trump canceled his visit to Poland, where he was supposed to go for an event to commemorate anniversary of the World War II, due to preparations for the approaching Hurricane Dorian, storm of the second category, which is heading towards Florida, AFP reported Thursday.
President Trump said that he would prefer to focus on preparations as safety of Americans is the highest priority.
“Our highest priority is the safety and security of the people in the path of the hurricane,” Trump said.
Trump reportedly spoke with Andrzej Duda, President of Poland, over the phone and apologized for not being able to come. POTUS announced that Vice President Mike Pence would visit Poland instead.
A state of emergency has been announced in Florida as the hurricane is expected to be “catastrophic.”
Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis said that “all Floridians really need to monitor Hurricane Dorian and make the necessary preparations.”
