Ahead of former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn’s appearance in court, his lawyers launched an attack against former special counsel Robert Mueller and his 22-months long probe into Russian interference in the 2016 US Presidential election and possible obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Emmet Sullivan, US District Judge, was supposed to hold a conference in order to talk about possible Flynn’s cooperation with law enforcement authorities. Flynn has been charged with lying to FBI and was due to be sentenced almost a year ago, but claimed he would cooperate with the prosecutors to get a lighter punishment. Then Flynn fired his lawyers and hired another team with Sidney Powell in chief. Powell, who has been long criticizing Mueller and his investigation, has claimed that US Department of Justice withheld some evidence, which could help Flynn and filed a lawsuit against DOJ.
Powell also said that prosecutors were just going after Donald Trump and his allies, and therefore “engaged in even more malevolent conduct in the prosecution” of her client than in any other case.
