Former key witness in Mueller probe to face 15 to 40 years in prison

George Aref Nader, Lebanese-American businessman and a former key witness in Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference, was arrested in New York on Monday for “transporting visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct,” Justice Department reported on Monday.

Nader is already a convicted sex offender. In 1991 he pleaded guilty to the same charge. Nader’s bail hearing is to be held on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Justice Department, he would face 15 to 40 years of imprisonment if convicted. His attorney said that Nader had an open-heart surgery about a month ago and now he has come to the US for an appointment with a doctor, therefore, should be transported to the Eastern District of Virginia.

Nader was mentioned in the Mueller report quite many times and is depicted as a “shadowy emissary,” media reports say. He was questioned by Mueller’s team about a meeting of Trump supporters in the Seychelles Islands arranged by Nader himself, and another one with Trump campaign officials in Trump Tower in August 2016. According to the Justice Department, on January 17th, 2018, Nader’s luggage was searched in relation with a secret complaint against him and that’s when FBI found pornographic videos of children on his iPhone.
