John Sanders, acting head of US Customs and Border Protection, is to resign the upcoming week, reported the Wall Street Journal Tuesday.
Sanders submitted the resignation Tuesday giving no reasons for leaving, yet according to people with knowledge of the matter, he had been “overwhelmed with the scale of the crisis and the frequent changes in personnel and policy direction inside the Trump administration.”
In a message to his employees, Sanders said: “Although I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful, I can unequivocally say that helping support the amazing men and women of CBP has been the most fulfilling and satisfying opportunity of my career.”
US President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday that he had nothing to do with Sanders’ resignation, and noted that “the asylum rules and laws are so bad that our border patrol people, who are so incredible, aren’t allowed to do their jobs.”
