On Wednesday the special representative of the Russian president for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov announced that a high-level meeting in Astana’s format on Syria will be held in Nur-Sultan in the beginning of August, after Turkey summit.
“At the very beginning of August there will be another international meeting on Syria in the Astana format in Nur-Sultan. There are certain innovations: representatives of Lebanon, Iraq as observers, in the same status as Jordan, will participate for the first time,” he said. “This is an important new element. The Astana Summit in Turkey will be held after the meeting in Nur-Sultan.”
“We need some specific agreements in order to consolidate them at the highest political level during the summit,” Bogdanov added.
Regarding the developing situation in Idlib, including the context of the attacks on Turkish observation posts, the high-ranking, the Diplomat commented: “The military colleagues are at constant contact with all interested parties, including Syria, Turkey, Iran, the USA.” “They [the military] monitor the development of the situation on the ground. The main task is to completely eliminate the terrorist presence in Syria, in the Idlib zone, where tens of thousands of terrorists have gathered,” Bogdanov claimed.
Earlier, the official representative of the President of Turkey Ibrahim Kalyn informed that the trilateral summit with the participation of the Russian Federation, Turkey and Iran on Syria will be held in August in Turkey.
