Jerrold Nadler to subpoena Attorney General

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Sunday that he is determined to subpoena William Barr in case the Attorney General refuses to testify as scheduled on Thursday.

“The witness is not going to tell the committee how to conduct its hearing, period,” said Nadler to CNN. If Barr does not come, he added, “then we will have to subpoena him, and we will have to use whatever means we can to enforce the subpoena.”

Democrats want to question the Attorney General over the redacted version of Special Counsel’s report that was released earlier this month and said there was no conspiracy between the US President and Russia. They insist that Mr. Barr should be questioned not only by lawmakers but staff lawyers as well. Mr. Barr does not want to accept that format.

“The attorney general agreed to appear before Congress,” said Kerri Kupec, a spokeswoman for the Justice Department. “Therefore, members of Congress should be the ones doing the questioning. He remains happy to engage with members on their questions regarding the Mueller report”.
