Maria Zakharova to Volodymyr Zelensky: consult with experts who understand what’s going on

Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, made a statement that Russia may be readmitted to the Group of Eight only if Crimea reunites with Ukraine, Russian News Agency TASS reported.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Zelensky’s statement and said it was very bold of the newly elected President to make it as his experience in foreign affairs may not be sufficient. “I was really surprised to see the Ukrainian President boldly engage in the discussion of matters that require a deep understanding of developments,” she said, noting that international relations are not that easy to understand. “We understand very well that the field where the Ukrainian president was active before has an international aspect, though of another sort,” Zakharova added.

The diplomat suggested that Zelensky should consult with his experts before he makes such statements. “Professionals should do things they are trained to do and if one is incompetent in some areas, it is netter to ask for expert assistance,” she said.

US President Donald Trump said Monday that he will certainly invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Summit of the Group of Seven in 2020, which will be hosted by the US. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier that any initiatives from the Group will be considered, noting that it was not up to Russia to decide.

“There is the G7 group, its members make decisions among themselves. If any of the decisions they make suggests sending a message to Russia, we will consider it and respond to it,” Lavrov said.
