Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Press Secretary, stated that a meeting between the US President Donald Trump and Putin May be held during the G20 Summit, which is to take place on June 28th in Osaka, Japan, and last for two days. It has not been officially proposed by the White House yet, however, Trump earlier expressed his willingness to meet Russian President at the Summit. According to media reports, Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State who visited Russia last month to hold talks with Vladimir Putin and Sergey Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke about Trump willing to meet the Russian leader.
“We still don’t know whether this meeting is going to take place or not, because it wasn’t initiated officially by the American side,” Peskov said. He has also added that Trump’s expressed willingness “is not a reason for a meeting to take place,” as such meetings should be initiated officially.
When asked whether Putin would accept Washington’s offer to hold the meeting with Trump if Kremlin received it, Peskov said that the answer should be clear.
“When president Putin says something, he means it, and when he means something, he does it. This is what I know for sure for one hundred percent,” Peskov said.
Lavrov claimed that Moscow would be supportive of holding a meeting between the two Presidents.
