Migrant children at bording cells not allowed to play or bathe

News

A migrant 12-year-old girl, detained at the US – Mexican border with her little 6-year-old sister for more than 10 days, says they were held in very bad facilities, where they had to sleep on the floor and had no chance to bathe, reported NZ Herald.

The girl, whose name was not mentioned so her immigration case is not jeopardized, was one of many migrant children separated from their families for weeks. Her sister and she were held in a holding cell at a Border Protection Station near El Paso. According to what the girl told her Attorney, the conditions were really bad and children were “treated badly.” They were not allowed to play inside the cells or bathe, and could not eat because the food they were given “tasted very bad.”

“There are some children, like the age of my sister, they cried for their mother or their father. They cried for their aunt. They missed them,” the girl said.

“They cried and they were locked up.”

Customs and Border Protection officials claim that there are too many immigrants and they do not have enough resources to take care of the facilities. Currently there are more than 250 children detained and separated from their parents, trying to take care of each other.
