Mike Pompeo is to visit Russia

News

Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, is going to Russia next week to discuss “aggressive and destabilizing actions” of Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, reported a State Department official Friday anonymously. He said that Pompey is to talk about Russia’s interference into the US elections and other issues, including Venezuela and Syria.

“We have many areas of disagreement with the Russian government and the secretary will have a very candid conversation about concerns in our bilateral relationship,” said the official.

“Russia has taken a series of aggressive and destabilizing actions on the global stage and this trip is an opportunity to make those points clear to the Russian government and what our expectations are and see how to forge a path forward.”

He has also stated that Trump believes that “a productive dialogue” with Russia and possible cooperation are very important, and that two countries had already started cooperating in some areas.

Monday 13th is when Pompeo is flying to Moscow. He will meet with the US embassy representatives first and the next day he will to Sochi for a meeting with Putin and Lavrov.

“We are approaching this from a very realistic approach, that this is an opportunity to take the conversation to a higher level and to have that frank and direct conversation on this full range of issues,” said the official.

President Trump had a phone conversation with Putin last week on a number of issues, yet they did not talk about Mueller’s findings on Russian interference into the 2016 elections, nor did they discuss further meddling.
