Russia passed bill on suspension from INF Treaty

The Russian Federation Council passed a bill to suspend the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF), an agreement signed in 1987 by the US and the USSR, reported Russia Today Wednesday.

The draft of the bill as submitted by the Russian President Vladimir Putin last month. Valentina Matvienko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council, has previously stated that the suspension of the Treaty was a “forced step” and that is was “absolutely correct” to support this legislation.

In October 2018 the US President Donald Trump claimed that the US would abandon the agreement as Russia allegedly violated its conditions. In February the US started the withdrawal process.
