Sergei Ryabkov: Trump’s good intention ends up with insufficient action

News

In the interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov claimed that intentions towards networking with Russia by the U.S. President Donald Trump are not accompanied by actions.

According to senior diplomat, Moscow always approved Trump’s announcement about his willings to strengthen relations with Russia.

“The problem is that this good intention ends up with insufficient action,” Ryabkov said.

We also acknowledge that given the current climate in the United States and the attempts to ‘play’ the so-called Russian problem or Russia’s meddling [card] as an element of their domestic agenda, probably, this approach is too ambitious,” Ryabkov added.

Diplomat offered to look for decisions to go forth despite sanctions. In his words, both countries could cooperate on such issues as Syria, North Korea and Afghanistan.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale intend to have talks in the capital of Finland Helsinki on Wednesday. The negotiations are supposed to be focused on launch of the US-Russian strategic dialogue on various important issues. The meeting must be held in the eve of a round of full consultations on issues of strategic stability between the U.S. and Russia on July 17-18 in Geneva.
