Social media platforms used by Border Patrol agents to mock migrants

US Border Patrol agents have created a secret group called “I’m 10 -15” on Social Media, where they share memes and post insulting comments about migrants and lawmakers, reported Gulf Today Tuesday.

The group was created in 2016 and since then has been filled with hatred and racism. According to media reports, one of the recent stories shared in the group about a 16-year-old migrant from Guatemala, who died in custody, brought out such comments as “if he dies, he dies” and “oh well.” Some other posts portrayed a Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez engaged in sexual activity with detained migrants.

Ocasio-Cortez, who visited Customs and Border Protection facilities on Monday, said that “this has been horrifying so far.”

Ocasio-Cortez called the conditions of CBP facilities “dehumanizing,” as women detained in holding cells told her they had to go up to 15 days with no shower and no running water. One woman was told to drink water out of the toilet.

The Head of the US Border Patrol Carla Provost commented on the existence of the Facebook group and said that posts shared by agents on social media “are completely inappropriate and contrary to the honor and integrity I see and expect from our agents day in and day out.”

“Any employee found to have violated our standards of conduct will be held accountable,” Provost added.
