St. George Ribbon Campaign Kicking Off in US

St. George Ribbon campaign has been launched today In major US cities. Only in New York in the coming days it is planned to distribute about 10 thousand ribbons. In San Francisco, where the campaign kicked off last Sunday 500 ribbons were distributed.

In Seattle the organizers of the Immortal Regiment marche, distributed red poppies alone with St. George Ribbons. Red Poppy is a European symbol of memory of the victims of military conflicts. “Some put on only ribbons, some only poppies, but many combine them together, it turns out not only beautiful looking but also,  very symbolic – uniting both European and the Soviet heritage, as many nations had to fight together to defeat fascism” said Igor Nozdrin, one of the marche organizers.

In New York, the St. George Ribbon campaign has been running since 2011. In the followed years, it was picked up in other cities in the US, where russian expat communities  organize the Immortal Regiment marche. The idea of ​​the St. George Ribbon was born in 2005 in Moscow. Black and orange ribbons became a symbol of the memory of the Victory in the World War II, and a sign of  gratitude to the veterans who liberated the world from fascism.
