Trump delays tariffs on Chinese goods

News

US President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday that he would delay tariffs on a number of Chinese goods, reported USA Today.

Tariffs on goods that were to be imposed in September are not delayed till December 15. Most of the items among the tariffed goods are reportedly Christmas gifts, which means that Americans will not need to spend more when shopping for holiday gifts.

Mark Zandi, an economist, suggested that President Trump decided to postpone the tariffs because he “wanted to avoid being the Grinch who stole Christmas.”

“These delayed tariff hikes would have landed squarely on American consumers,” Zandi added.

It is worth mentioning that the list of goods that the tariffs would be imposed on is 21-page-long and includes all kinds of gadgets, clothing, toys and shoes.

President Trump said Tuesday that he was delaying the tariffs “for Christmas season,” so the Americans can save big.

“We’re doing it for Christmas season, just in case some of the tariffs would have an impact on US customers,” Trump stated. “So far they’ve had virtually none.”

Daniel Ives, an analyst with Wedbush Securities, claimed that Americans would have to pay extra of about $100 to buy an iPhone when the tariffs are in effect.

“Consumers would get a gut punch,” Ives said. “Apple won’t absorb the tariff just to be nice.”

Yet there is one more list of goods that President Trump want to enact tariffs on and it reportedly runs 122 pages, it is unclear when the tariffs are to go into effect but experts say they are coming soon and would hit farmers, manufacturing industry, stocks and pocketbooks of average Americans.
