Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela, and Donald Trump, President of the United States, confirmed that they have been conducting “secret” meetings despite the US imposing new sanctions against Venezuela, reported Fox News Wednesday.
Maduro told reporters Tuesday that Venezuela top government officials had meetings with representatives of the US Administration.
“We’ve had secret meetings in secret places with secret people that nobody knows,” Maduro said. “Sure there’s been contact and we’ll continue having contact.”
President Trump confirmed the information and said that his officials are talking to “various representatives” from government of Venezuela.
“We’re talking to various representatives of Venezuela. I don’t want to say who, but we are talking at a very high level,” Trump said.
Maduro also claimed he was ready to meet with his American counterpart to discuss the normalization of the bilateral relations.
The US previously outlined its position and said it did not see Maduro a legitimate leader of the country.
