Trump’s lawyer says ignoring congressional subpoenas is “the right thing” to do

Rudy Giuiani, President Trump’s personal lawyer, claimed that’s ignoring congressional subpoenas is “the right thing” to do for Trump.

In a Sunday morning interview with John Catsimatidis Giuliani said that “there are six different investigations…thousands of requests for documents, it’s like they’re [Democrats] falling all over themselves.”

“So the president is doing the right thing in resisting their subpoenas, not because he doesn’t want to cooperate, he cooperated with the special counsel…we just don’t want to do it over again,” said Giuliani.

According to reports by The Hill, only this week White House refused to comply with subpoenas for documents on president’s communication with Don McGahn, former White House counsel; former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s resignation; James Comey’s firing; 2016 meeting in Trump Tower; and other topics. Steve Mnuchin, Treasury Secretary, on Friday rejected a congressional subpoena for president Trump’s tax returns saying that it “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose.”

White House officials suggest that the panel should narrow its investigation. Pat Cipollone, White House counsel, labeled Democrats’ probe “a pseudo law enforcement investigation” and noted that matters Democrats want to cover have already been the subject of 22-months Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
