US-China trade war on top of G20 agenda

The annual Group of 20 Summit is on in Osaka, Japan. Media reports say that one of the main topics at the Summit is a trade war between the US and China.

Some of the world leaders present at the Summit spoke out on the relative topic. German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her hope that US-China trade war would be resolved. “We hope that discussions between China and the US on the margins of this conference will, along with other talks, perhaps lead to success,” she said.

The two leaders, US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, are supposed to meet on the sidelines of the Summit on Saturday. Prior to the meeting President Trump said that “at a minimum, it’ll be productive.” We’ll see what happens and what comes out of it,” he added.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said: “We hope that the US can meet China halfway and work together with us to promote a positive result from the meeting. This is in the interest of both countries and also meets the common expectation of the international community.”
