Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, stated that Russia did not interfere in the 206 US presidential election and does not intend to do it in 2020.
When asked about the matter during the meeting with news agencies’ CEOs in St. Petersburg, Russia, organized by TASS, Putin said, “we didn’t meddle, we aren’t meddling, we will not meddle in any elections.”
“We don’t have and never had any plans to interfere in the US domestic politics,” Putin said.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller conducted an investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 election and reportedly found that Russian government “interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion,” and accused Russians of hacking Democratic officials and spreading divisive rhetoric. However, President Putin said that government is not able to stop private citizens from saying what they think and expressing their views online. “How can we ban them from doing that?” he said.
